Wildlife is a precious gift from God to this world, and our goal is to help save animals that are in danger of going extinct. Roxy Danckwerts did that exact thing. In 2016, a baby elephant named Moyo was found in a river in Zimbabwe. She had been separated from her family and was almost going to drown. She was saved and cared for at “Wild is Life,” which was started by Roxy Danckwerts.
A sanctuary called “Wild is Life” has an elephant nursery, and little Moyo was one of their smallest rescues. She only weighed 56 kilos, which is less for her age than the average calf, which weighs 90 kilos. When the refuge took Moyo in, she was very weak and sick. She would spend the whole day with Roxy, and Roxy would stay up all night taking care of the scared little calf. This led Moyo to believe Roxy.
The Dodo wrote an article after 14 months. She was then found to be caring and loving toward Roxy. She followed Roxy everywhere, even into her house, and forgot how big she was. Roxy had a picture of herself, Moyo, and her dog. Moyo has now gotten over her biggest fear, which was swimming. It’s interesting that swimming is natural for African elephants, but Moyo forgot how to do it because of the trauma she went through. But now she knows how to do it, and she loves it! She is now a great representative for the nursery and leads the other elephants who were left alone.

BBC first showed her as one of the Miracle Orphans. Roxy said that it would be hard for her to let go of Moyo because they’ve had so much fun together. Ivory trade is one of the most dangerous things for elephants, and Moyo was a big part of getting President Xi to stop it. He loved meeting this little bundle of joy. China stopped allowing the legal trade of ivory at the end of 2017. But it still goes on without being seen.

Elephants are among the most intelligent of the creatures with whom we share the planet. If we want to save the last elephants, the world needs to work together like never before. Let’s hope that tomorrow will be better and that beautiful animal won’t be killed for illegal trade.
