Maine Coons are recognized as a domesticated cat breed. As one of the oldest natural breeds in North America, this breed has its origins in Maine, the United States of America. This breed of giant cat is known for its outgoing, playful, witty, and kind disposition.
Some of its qualities include a rectangular body form, a long bushy tail, ruff down its chest, powerful bone structure, and an irregular two-layered coat. The Maine Coon is an excellent hunter with dog-like qualities. Since they have such a distinctive physical look, they can withstand the extreme cold of winter.

These cats were labeled the most giant breed of domestic cats, but this status was taken away with the introduction of Savannah cats.
